Features of Aizu Lacquerware:
Aizu lacquerware is a traditional technique passed down in the Aizu region. During the Aizu domain era, significant efforts were made towards technological innovation, developing techniques so superb that they were exported to countries like China and the Netherlands. Currently designated as a national traditional craft, it produces lacquerware with diverse techniques such as Raden (mother-of-pearl inlay), Urushi-e (lacquer painting), Kanshitsu (dry lacquer), Makie (gold powder decoration), and Hananuri (flower coating). We are developing lacquerware that incorporates functions required for modern living within tradition, including items compatible with dishwashers.

Makie: A method of expressing patterns by drawing flowers and designs with lacquer or paint on the surface of lacquerware, and then sprinkling gold or colored powder onto it.
Kin-mushikui-nuri: Black lacquer is applied, and before it dries, barley or rice husks are sprinkled all over. After drying, the barley is removed. Then, silver powder is sprinkled, dried, and polished with charcoal to complete the process.
Hananuri: A finishing technique where a topcoat of lacquer, made glossy with added oil, is applied. It is created with advanced skill to achieve a smooth finish without brush marks or unevenness.
